"Take the ordinary within you and make it extraordinary..."
I don't know where I found that quote, or who wrote it, but I wish I did because I'd really like to thank them. These words have inspired and encouraged me as a partner, a mother, a family member, a friend, a writer, a celebrant and a general member of society. I try to live these words every single day.
In the writing sense, taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary is what writers do. We build worlds, develop characters (hopefully memorable ones), and invent situations that take our readers out of their ordinary, everyday lives into the extraordinary space that is the imagination.
In the celebratory sense, we use ceremony to take the ordinary and make everyday events something extraordinary. Celebrants help people celebrate life's important milestones - births, deaths and marriages - with ceremony. Sometimes the simplicity of rituals adds so much to a celebration of life or love.
This website promotes my work as a published Australian children's author and links to my sister site promoting my work as a registered civil marriage celebrant. Thanks so much for stopping by.
